    About the Green Triangle

The Green Triangle was originally built in 1926 as a road house restaurant, bar, and gasoline station. Green Triangle CowboyThere was an old-fashioned group of cabins that graced the property that served as accomodations for guests. RC Hillman bought the Green Triangle in 1940. At that time he had approximately seven other bars and gambling places scattered throughout Pocatello, Blackfoot, and Downey.

During the war years, Pocatello had the air force, the naval ordinance plant, and other military operations. Gambling was very popular in Pocatello. RC Hillman (Bob), told a story about how, on the day he bought the Green Triangle, the former owner sold a $.25 cent pack of cigarettes for the whole day. On the Night that Bob re-opened the Green Triangle he won enough money gambling to pay for the whole business.

The old Green Triangle was located on the north point of the property across from the theater by the stop light. In 1952 Bob built the new Green Triangle where it presently stands. Buildings from the abandoned air force complex at the airport were moved and attached together to form the basic building. One building was the officer's club. The other building was a barracks. In the late 1950's Bob built the cafe onto the building and added a large banquet room, doubling the size of the operation. The concept of the original business was a supper club, which featured a dining room, ballroom dancing, live entertainment and floor show such as Ice Follies on ice. Bob had run so many small operations during the war years that he decided to build one place that was big enough to do all the business that it was possible to get.

Roy Roger's Silver Saddle ReplicaThroughout the years many movie stars, presidents, vice-presidents and artists have come through our door. Bob had a chance to meet one of his movie idols. Roy Rogers and his sons stopped by for lunch on their way to Yellowstone Park. Bob was an avid horseman and had Edward H. Bolin make him a duplicate of one of Roy Roger's Silver Mounted Saddles which the family still owns today. In 1950 Bob married Elaine Sayer and adopted two small children, Marty and Rick.

Rick Hillman began managing the Green Triangle in 1971. He married Linda Baker. They had two children; Robert Corey, named after Grandpa, and Dana Jo. Rick has managed Dana Hillman the business until about 2000 at which time Corey and Dana have assumed management of the business.Corey Hillman Therefore the Green Triangle is now in its third generation of management. Corey has a business degree from ISU and Dana has an MBA degree from ISU. Corey is an avid hunter and has three little boys; Riley, Nicholas and Kyler. Dana is an avid competitor in several types of sports including karate and single action shooting. She has 8 World titles in cowboy action shooting and cowboy mounted shooting. She also has a third degree black belt in Tae Qwon Do.

In 2002 the family remodeled the cafe area to create a bar and grill atmosphere. Most of the work was designed and completed by Corey Hillman.
